NAGA CITY: The National Irrigation Administration in Bicol has irrigated at least 1,093 hectares of ricelands following the restoration of non-functional irrigation facilities and structures despite of slow release of funds, Ed Yu, NIA public relations officer, told The Manila Times.

Over 85 percent, representing 3,215 hectares of rice farms in Catanduanes, is already covered by government-provided irrigation facilities, leaving only 555 hectares of the island-province’s potential irrigable area needing a stable supply of water, according to the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).

LEGAZPI CITY - The dry spell has started taking its toll on some 4,000 hectares of irrigated ricelands in Bicol, prompting the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) to employ contingency measures to address the problem, a NIA official said Friday.
