BULAN, SORSOGON-- Sorsogon Masbate IMO Operations and Maintenance personnel attended a meeting with the Municipal Agriculture Office of Bulan, Sorsogon, headed by Ms. Marietta G. Bayoca together with the Committee Chairman for Agriculture, Municipal Administrator and different Irrigators Associations, here.
During the meeting, problems encountered by the farmers due to the onset of El Niño phenomenon were identified and discussed noting possible solutions and recommendations to lessen its effect.
According to Engr. Jhune N. Fabricante, NIA SMIMO OM personnel, the delay in water distribution is affected by the ongoing implementation of the Repair and Rehabilitation of Canals and Canal Structures.
With this, a temporary suspension of works on the ongoing projects is being implemented to provide the required water supply for the service areas until the stage of terminal drainage. Based on the total water requirement and the total canal discharge, it is expected that the supply of irrigation water for the wet cropping is sufficient.
Moreover, a temporary schedule of water distribution to combat the effects of El Niñowill be implemented in San Ramon- San Francisco RIS.
The SMIMO OM Personnel in Bulan are on the round-the-clock monitoring of the water distribution to accommodate the irrigation water needed by the farmer’s respective fields. The staff of Municipal Agriculture Office also lend a hand to monitor the said water distribution.
